MX5 NC 6 Speed 3rd / 4th Selector Issue
The early model Mazda MX5 NC 6 speed gearboxes are known for breaking the 3rd/4th selector, especially when used on the track or racing. The stock one is cast alloy and is shown in Pic 1. Pic 2 shows our billet alloy direct replacement designed from the Mazdaspeed unit which is NLA. Pic 3 shows the beefier unit fitted standard to the 2009 MY cars onwards. This one cannot be retrofitted to the earlier gearbox.
NC MX5 Gearbox Issues - 1st Gear Hard To Select
Customers have reported that 1st gear hard to find on their NC MX5. At the base of the gearstick is the nylon baseplate that locates and holds the gearstick in the gearbox. The red circle in Pic 1 one shows the side face of this plate and the blue circle shows the metal lug on the gearstick that rests on this plate when selecting 1st gear. This is also the lockout for reverse and when you push down on the gearstick you slide under this nylon baseplate and select reverse. Over time as the metal rubs against the nylon it wears...
