The early model NC MX5 (2005-2006) can suffer from an engine misfire caused by damaged wiring to the coils. This is usually first noticed as an intermittent engine misfire that develops into a full misfire in time. Another symptom can be “popping” from the exhaust on overrun. We recently published and article about building up an MX5 NC as a road car/track car for one of our customers in Melbourne. Part of this write-up included the replacement of the upper inner control arm bushes to the Whiteline offset pin kit. The benefit of this is it allows for extra camber to be dialled in. Tips and Tricks -

On NC’s we do see a few oil filter sealing O rings stay on the filler housing when you remove the old oil filter. I've only ever seen it with genuine MAZDA oil filters. MX5 NC Oil Filter O Ring The new oil filter will screw on (by only a thread or two) however it wont seal at high pressure possibly causing a leak which could result in major engine damage. Just make sure the old seal is removed before you fit the new filter!!
